Are you one of those people
that can't wait to get the newest, greatest technology? If that sounds like you, you're ready
to make the leap to High Definition TV (HDTV).
High Definition TV offers theater like quality to the home viewer.
The old analog signal sent programming to a standard TV. The TV's picture resolution is
typically about 210,000 pixels. With HDTV, the resolution of the picture contains approximately 2
million pixels. You can imagine what affect this has on the typical transmission - images appear clearer,
sharper and crisper with details standing out against backgrounds.
So, is it possible to just
starting watching HDTV with your regular TV and cable reception? The answer is simple, no - you need
to upgrade your equipment. First, how are you receiving your television signal? Remember, cable TV's typical broadcast is in analog, not
digital, and certainly not HDTV. To get the best quality signal, a satellite signal is really the best
option.
The easiest and least
expensive way to get HDTV signals to your TV is to buy an HDTV converter. Unfortunately, the converter will
broadcast the signal to a similar quality as a DVD on your TV set. Not the true quality of a HDTV set.
If you are thinking about getting an HDTV, there are a few things you should consider. HDTV's come in two options - TV's
that are Integrated HDTV's (they come with a built-in tuner) or those that are HDTV
ready or HDTV compatible. The TV's that are HDTV ready or HDTV compatible require a HDTV converter or tuner
to receive high-definition programs.
Most integrated HDTV's are
available in either front or rear projection sets or plasma sets. The cost of plasma sets, once out of
sight, has quickly dropped. The quality of these sets is remarkable.
When choosing an HDTV set, evaluate the input jacks. Make
sure that the connectors will work with your VCR, DVD player or video
games. HDTV's make television viewing a remarkable experience - you'll enjoy the theater like appearance
of the images and the surround sound stereo quality.
